About Us

After 135 years in business, you would think that there might have been a pause in the history of a company, but not so with the Droegkamp Furnace Co. Starting at 1407 Cherry St. in Milwaukee, the business grew and moved to 1511 W. Fond Du Lac Ave for 75 years and then 13000 W. Custer Ave in Butler until 1987. Presently the company is located at 520 Capitol Dr. in Pewaukee.
The company started on October 23, 1877, when Mathilda Droegkamp purchased $27.90 worth of pots and pans from George Geuder & Son and sold them to her neighbors. After three years of selling pots, pans, and kitchen items, Mathilda asked her husband John Droegkamp to leave his job as a coppersmith to help her form The John Droegkamp Company. In those days, there were no central heating systems. Stoves heated homes, and The John Droegkamp Company sold them. This started the Droegkamp Furnace Company. It began as a family business and still is today, over 135 years later.
In the early 1920s, central heating came on and the cast iron coal burning furnace was the standard piece of heating equipment. The Droegkamp Furnace Company manufactured and marketed their own furnace called the Droegkamp Royal Furnace. They also installed and serviced what they sold.
In 1929, industries started manufacturing steel furnaces, and this was to set a trend for the industry. Cast iron equipment was on the way out. In the 1930s, the steel furnace became the furnace of the times.
The Droegkamp Furnace Co. carefully appraised various manufacturers and their products, and chose to represent the finest of these manufacturers.
The company has seen turmoil in the world and the economy throughout the years. During the great depression, employees actually moved into the Droegkamp Furnace Co. building and lived in the quarters on the second floor. This sense of family has been the enduring trademark of Droegkamp's attitude toward employees and customers for 135 years.
The policy of Droegkamp Furnace Co. has been to do the best possible with quality workmanship at a competitive price. The succeeding generations of Droegkamps have always carried that idea forward.
Today, as it was 135 years ago, our goal is to ensure all our customers are comfortable in their homes, regardless of the season.
